Glad you had on a wonderful Thanksgiving.

FYI, I know you love the chan, but I bet good money it's what is making the site a little slower

Literally speaking, you mean? Because the site loads relatively quick for me.

Seems to vary through the day. Others have noticed it too. I'm on cable (20 mb / 5mb ). Should never be slow

I don't see how the chan could be slowing the site down... unless they've got something weird running in the background. It's just flat html files until someone posts something.

Its actually a combination of html, css, php, and mysql. But never less, you are right in the it "should" be fine. But the underline issue is a hosting issue.

I know that, I meant as far as I know it doesn't pull from the database and render a view with every request the way some applications do.

Actually, technically, it does. That is how you see this post right now. It's saved in the database, mysql.

But the true issue is the host. I may post about the underline issue on the forums (sometime in the future)

Actually technically it only kind of does.

When you post, yes. It saves the post to the database then regenerates the pages. But most of the time, no one is posting and then they're just loading the html files directly.

Although I don't know what caching directives you have running in .htaccess - as slow as this site is you might consider looking into setting the images to cache for a while. The default .htaccess file that comes with the html5 boilerplate might be worth looking at for examples.

It's underlying. Underlying issue.

I believe we're almost on the same page. Allow me to clarify something...

The actual comment / post is loaded in mysql. If I edited the database manually, I could actually put or remove words from your mouth (not that I would, but you could).

But you are not wrong in that your browser does interpret it as an html file in the way of it's source reading (the same way it does with the forum as well).

Never the less, each page load, queries the database (mysql) for the latest comments / content.

As for the real cause, as promised http://forum.catiewayne.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=18399

... after you went into the manage panel and clicked "rebuild all html files." Because it builds flat files from the database.

This is why the staff board could be viewed directly through read.php earlier, because Intrepid had the directory (flat files) protected through .htpassword but read.php takes the posts directly from the db.

Trust me on this.

What are you even doing, you just come here and try to improve Catie's site for no particular reason? Have you been here before?

Just having a pedantic conversation about imageboard mechanics with TheVisitors here, nothing to be suspicious of.

I was directly addressing TheVisitors with my post and he wil know what I mean. Website improvement is all he posts about on the forum aswell.

Why do bad people do the things they do? Because they can.

Why do I do the good things that I do? Because I can. Must I really have a reason?

I guess I could just give you a simple aswer of, no, I've been here for a little while now and I'm fan and would like to do something good, because it would help & make me feel good.

Think that's the best answer I really can give you.

No, it doesn't. The board pages and thread page are flat HTML files. Actual plain files sitting in a folder on the server. No database is involved in serving them.

read.php (post quote popups) and expand.php (the "Expand Thread" button) do query the database though.
